That was fast

A few days ago I told you all about Penelope's cold and how we thought she got it from Katie. Well, our not so scientific new analysis is that she got it from day care, because Penelope has now given it to us! So, yes, within less than a week of starting day care, the whole family is sick. That was fast. Katie started feeling sick on Saturday, and was pretty miserable all of today (Sunday). I started feeling sick when I woke up this morning, and I'm hoping not to feel like Katie does tomorrow. Tonight we had matzo ball soup to help with the recovery process. Luckily, other than that one night I wrote about, Penelope has been doing great. Her nose is still runny, but she has been sleeping well and has been happy and energetic (unlike her parents).

I wanted to share one tip that Katie got from her friend Karyn in lab (and mother of a two-year-old). After Penelope's restless night, we were concerned that all the snot in her nose was interfering with breathing and sleep. We thought it would be nice if she could sleep on her tummy or on an incline (or even standing up) so that everything could drain. Well, Karyn suggested that we put textbooks under one end of the mattress to make a baby-safe incline. We did and Penelope has been sleeping well. I don't know if the incline made a difference or not, but her breathing has sounded good since we did it. It has also been funny to come in in the morning and see that Penelope has slid down the mattress in her sleep. It has also allowed for a new game. Penelope has been trying very hard to roll from her back to her tummy. She can roll on to her side, but gets stuck because she can't get her head up enough. So, I put her on her back at the top of the mattress incline, and let her use gravity to help her roll down the mattress. As far as milestones go, it doesn't count as a real roll over, but it is fun to watch and helps her practice the coordination.

OK, time for us sick folk to go to bed. I still have to post about the crazy sounds that Penelope was making ALL day, but that will have to wait until tomorrow.
